Room Colour Scheme

wingedvic…
2 Months Ago
I am currently remodeling my bedroom and would like some advice on the colour scheme. Here is my colour of my walls:

innocence
(its hard to tell if this is this right shade on my computer. It is a bold, but light robins egg blue. Bit on the green and mint side)

I am aiming for a regal and antique french theme. I already have a white bed and desk.

I would love to hear any and all suggestions you may have for my room. I don't want to my room to be all blue, and am currently struggling with what accent colours to use.

Umm, anything else besides the bed and table? A closet perhaps, or anything else in a different color (that is not going to change)?

For example, I suppose there is a door? :P Or perhaps a screen or sliding door? Are you planning to repaint the door too? What about curtains, do you use any and would you change them?

I'm trying to gather what exactly is the room made of, including door frames (some cool effects could be achieved by painting the door frame in a different color and/or color type), material types in use (glass, metal, satin, wood, ...), furniture arrangements, mirrors, doorknobs, decorations, kind of the view from the window(s), type and/or color of quilts and/or sheets on the bed, any particular thing (a picture hung on the wall, a book, whatever) that you want to stand out... everything. If you think about this, you'll probably find out lots of reasons why it could be helpful to mention those.

Perhaps you could take several photos of your bedroom, digitally strip out any colors and personal/private details etc. and post them here. There is software available to make 360° "vistas" out of two or (preferrably) more pictures. Oh, and don't forget to get your bed made before shooting pictures :P

Of course, feel free to ignore this post if you find it outrageous, weird or just plain silly. :)

My room is very plain right now. But yes, has a white door, mirror sliding doors for the wardrobe and white molding on the top and bottom on the walls. The floor is a cream-ish carpet. I will take some photos and upload them soon, to show a better view of the colour and work space.

At the moment, I have a collection of french prints framed that is yet to be placed on my wall. I am excited to collect different quilts and pillows for my bed but am actually waiting for my bed to arrive. (ordered it online).

Your idea of a door knob inspires me to get some bulky crystal looks knob or something along those lines. Curtains? No, have none, haha. Again I don't know what colours to look for.

Welcome to My Home

I like the charcoal chocolate in this palette (Thanks The Cooler!) and am thinking of getting a plush looking patterned fabric with this colours....

So I will upload some photos asap. Thanks for your help! :)

I'm having a bit of a hard time finding matching colors for your "innocence" wall color. Do you happen to know what exact paint color was used for the walls, or find the paint can used for it? Sometimes you can see pretty good color schemes in paint manufacturers' websites and build upon those.

What exactly are you trying to achieve? This is some very personal choice, of course. I think I understand your choice of style, but I mean, how do you want your room to make you feel?

welcome (in the "with arms wide open" kind of way);
soothed and calm;
thought-provoked (probably not very good for sleep :P);
immersed in beauty and awe;
sexy and charming;
erotic and sultry;
loved and cherished;
reminded of precious memories;
feminine to the core;
sophisticated;
or what?

Okay, I did these:

Winged Voice
French Table
French Victory

Are you planning or willing to repaint the walls? For some reason, I personally would paint the walls in a very light shade -- of blue, purple, yellow, or orange -- if I was to do a French style based makeover. See if these spark any inspiration...

The room simulators from the paint companies are kind of fun once you have some palettes you like. You can either use one of their "stock" photos or upload and mask off your own. Then just mask of accents like pillows, cushions, drapes, etc. and change them to simulate color schemes. Here is the link for Benjamin Moore:

Benjamin Moore Simulator

If you want to go to the trouble you can grab the RGB code of a pixel in any of the palettes here and run it through Easy RGB and it will kick out exact/closest paint color codes for major companies like Benjamin Moore, etc. Then you can plug the paint codes into the simulators directly.

Easy RGB

Have fun.

Winged, if you're looking for an antique, French feel, then I think a bit of gold would be lovely. But unfortunately, we can't get the shininess and variety of gold to show up in a single 6-byte hex number. Drat!

Here's a suggestion, though: I've recently had an accent wall done in a faux finish, and it has a very faint, gold patina on it which is just lovely. You can't really tell it's there until you look at it very closely and very close, but it gives a wonderful subtle sheen.

I am sticking to the colour of my walls. I used Kelly Moore though. The colour though looks like 'surf city' on the Benjamin Moor site (listed above my Just Perfect Color, thank you) on the classic colour list. Plus a white trim and ceiling.

I am going for the french antique theme. I want it to look put together and unique but still work as a theme. I am aiming for a calm and sophisticated look. I do though, love bright colours and would like to add a punch to my room. My idea is to use a variety of light and dark colours in my room. So the walls keep the room bright, but the furniture and furnishing doesn't overpower the room.

Thank you for the wall ideas, paint sites and input! :D

Here is the Kelly Moore link. It is not a brand available here. Nothing wrong with the paint but it really doesn't promote to designers and architects like some of the others. This means nothing to you if you found or have the colors you like.

I am a bit disappointed that I didn't find that link on the site. I looked. Thanks for the link. The colour is Aquavit. Either way, I love the colour. Thanks :D

Ya, that colour really does look spot on. Though in the sunlight, it has a bright glow. Thanks!
