Never mind the technicalities of submitting a repeating pattern to colourlovers - here is a super cool link showing you how to design a repeating pattern in the first place! With or without a computer

Funny, I didn't even notice the ads the first time. I had to go back & look.

Hey does anyone know of some cheap software that can output the kind of file CL needs for submitted patterns?

EDIT: Nevermind, I figured out how to output an .ai file from photoshop

The question now is how does the actual .ai need to be formatted? Each of the 5 grays on its own layer? etc etc

I think I have developed a sort of selective blind spot down the side of my vision, specially to block out anoying ads. Or actually any kind of ad at all.

I know some of the patterns have been submitted by colourlovers. Anyone know who's submitted patterns that have gone live on the site? Then we can ask them the lowdown on how to format patterns for submission...

I used Flash to create the patterns I submitted. I used 5 different (and only 5) colors. I don't know if it is helpful for them to be on seperate layers. I didn't do it like that and Flash is different anyway.

I know that Darius/Chris would prefer them in .svg output. At the point and time I did them, there wasn't an svg converter for Flash.

The link above was tres helpful to me so thanks for posting it. It is a little bit different (and easier) technique than I normally use. I was able to quickly make a palm trunk and rock texture last night in my 3D animation class because of the technique!

I am excited to try it on some of my paintings. Woo hoo!

I seriously have been looking for this kind of thing THE LAST TWO YEARS.

Design Sponge, too! I really should look for help in my own bookmarks list...

It's really hard for me to figure out how to do repeating patterns for some reason. It's kind of funny, because I'm fairly good at visualizing things, and I can mentally deconstruct cubes into their patterns (those questions on IQ tests?).

I'm going to try to make a pattern now...I'll have to figure out what to draw, though. Such a useful link!

& thanks, liddle_r. And thanks for your lovely patterns, I worship you. ^^

(I didn't even see the ads. =P I should definitely do an experiment to see if Adsense brings in any revenue at all, because many people (especially the more tech-savvy) block out ads. I almost never click on them, unless there's ~5 images, and no more.)

you may give a shot to inkscape; a very reliable, open source scalable vector graphics editor.
