Color of the Year 2021

I think that many people are entering 2021 with a greater sense of hope than they experienced in 2020, largely because of the vaccines that are available. Yet there is a great deal of concern too because of the new variant of the SARS-C0V-2 virus, which has incapacitated hospitals in the UK and threatens people and hospitals around the world.

Some people are prophets of gloom and doom, refusing to believe anything that health authorities or the government tells them. These people are often the ones who also refuse to inhibit the spread of the "novel coronavirus" by wearing a mask and physically distancing when they are in the presence of other people. And a few others have become violent and crazy and a complete risk to everyone.

For all of these reasons, I am not choosing a vivid colour to describe 2021. I think that the future is largely blank, and it remains to be seen, but I am approaching it with gentle optimism.
